As part of its ongoing expansion to better serve its customers, Circuit Breaker Sales has acquired Berthold Electric Power Services from Gus Berthold Electric Co.

Gainesville, TX, Jan. 9, 2018 – As part of its ongoing expansion to better serve its customers, Circuit Breaker Sales Co., Inc. (CBS) has acquired Berthold Electric Power Services from Gus Berthold Electric Co. The business has been integrated into CBS and will continue serving the Midwest from its existing Chicago and St. Louis service centers and with its existing management and personnel.

Operating as CBS, the business will continue to provide quality maintenance, repair, remanufacturing and testing of low- and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers. In addition to performing these services in its modern, fully equipped service centers, the business also provides on-site preventive maintenance services and emergency on-call services.

Circuit Breaker Sales, a Group CBS company, is headquartered in a modern 200,000 square foot facility in Gainesville, Texas; and in addition to the new Chicago and St. Louis service centers has additional service centers in Lakeland, Florida and Crown Point, Indiana.

Group CBS Finds Success at PowerTest

Group CBS Finds Success at PowerTest

At the 2017 PowerTest conference hosted by NETA in February, Group CBS, Inc., showed why its affiliates are leaders in the field of electrical testing and safety. Finley Ledbetter provided hands-on demonstrations at the Group CBS new product booth, including the MAC-TS5+, the latest generation test set which combines the leak-rate test and HiPot test.

Meanwhile, Dan Hook of Western Electrical Services and CBS Gainesville engineer Paul Grein led two panels on everything circuit breaker. GCBS concluded PowerTest with a big win, as Ledbetter took home an award for his presentation, “How Vacuum Interrupters Work and How They Fail.”

Smooth Operators: Spotlighting Longtime Group CBS Employees

Kevin Brewer worked 21 years for an ARMCO steel plant that manufactured oil field equipment. In 1981, the oil field business went away, and Brewer and many others were laid off. Less than a year later, Brewer was talking to a friend who owned a machine shop. He told Brewer to call a new business that was looking to hire a machinist.

Finley Ledbetter told Brewer to bring in his resume and come talk to him. Impressed with Brewer, Ledbetter sent the applicant to Jack Reeves, the shop manager. Brewer was hired that day.

For the next 30 years, Brewer took on one challenge after another. Machining was his forte. Circuit breakers, on the other hand, were something new and different. Brewer quickly learned to work on low- and medium-voltage breakers.

From a faxed picture, Brewer developed, made, and built an AKF breaker. Then Brewer learned to design and build medium-voltage retrofit breakers and ground and test devices.
