In early August, CBS ArcSafe received an 11 A.M. call about an emergency at a major facility that needed to have breakers brought back up following an unexpected electrical outage after a storm on the east coast. The breakers could not safely be closed manually due to the high incident energy. The local utility had dozens of other calls and outages to attend to before they could be onsite to bring the system back up. It could be days.
After receiving the call, CBS ArcSafe technicians jumped into action and built from scratch an RSA-73C to be used on a General Electric Type HPC high pressure contact switch. This system would be able to Charge/Close/Trip the breaker remotely while being stationed well outside the arc flash boundary. CBS ArcSafe had the custom-built solution completed and hand-delivered to the customer at DFW Airport at 4:30 P.M., for a return flight at 6:45 P.M. The Remote Switch Actuator (RSA) & Remote Switch Operator (RSO) successfully brought the facility back to full operations that evening. Working together, we avoided days of potential downtime.
From a phone call at 11 A.M. to hand delivery of custom-built products at 4:30 P.M., it’s all in a day’s work at CBS ArcSafe.
