Promoting electrical safety among technicians is good. But teaching those personnel about the production, distribution, protection, and maintenance of electrical equipment is even better. To accomplish this goal, Group CBS has opened a training center outside Chicago in Elgin, IL. Group CBS Training Center Chicago is the second facility of its kind, following in the footsteps of the inaugural training center at CBS Northeast in Seymour, CT.

Group CBS selected Chicago because of the high concentration of industry in the Midwest, serviced by affiliate Circuit Breaker Sales (CBS) locations in Rockford, IL; St. Louis, MO; and Crown Point, IN; as well as Advanced Electrical & Motor Controls in Elgin.

Training will be provided primarily by two Group CBS training partners: AVO Training Institute and Shermco Industries. AVO Training Institute will offer courses on basic electrical troubleshooting, circuit breaker maintenance, and NFPA 70E, while Shermco’s curriculum includes hands-on lab sessions and practical exercises on complying with OSHA, NFPA, and CSA standards and regulations. Additionally, Group CBS will build its own training program, including courses from CBS ArcSafe focused on remote racking and switching solutions.

“The Chicago training center will be the first in the Midwest to give technicians a comprehensive program taught by industry leaders about safely operating and maintaining electrical equipment,” says Tommy Phillips, general manager of CBS ArcSafe. “It will also introduce students to all of the services and products offered by Group CBS.”
